Matt Dreyfus

For more than twenty years Matt Dreyfus has been dedicated to teaching the profound subject of Iyengar Yoga. A student since 1994, in 1999, he began traveling to India regularly to study with the Iyengar family. As a core faculty member of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York, and the Institute’s teacher training faculty, he teaches students of all levels and abilities. Matt is also active in New Jersey; he has been teaching in the Princeton area since 2011 and is the director of Teacher Education at Santosha Yoga Studio in Madison.
When Matt first encountered Iyengar Yoga, he quickly found his way to senior teacher Mary Dunn, with whom he studied and apprenticed until her passing in 2008. Her teaching opened the doorway for Matt to make this practice his own. Since her passing, his primary teacher and mentor in the US has been John Schumacher, who continues to be an inspiring example of the power of sustained practice and dedication. For many years, Matt has also been a student of Zen Buddhism, practicing and training in the Mountains and Rivers Order.
Matt’s partner in this life is his wife, fellow Iyengar Yoga teacher Michelle LaRue. They live in Hoboken, New Jersey, together with their daughter.

A Spring Retreat: Reconnecting

May 3 - 5, 2024
This weekend of Iyengar Yoga is an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and with nature, to approach your practice and your life in a positive, engaged way. With a particular emphasis on breath, we’ll study integration through asana and pranayama, becoming more refined in how we apply effort toward our aims.
